The case of the "Hiccup Girl" sentenced to life. written by Bob Stewart Jennifer Mee gained fame as a teenager as the girl with incurable hiccups; she appeared on National TV, but that all is in the past as her life turned to custard from an act of foolishness. In 2010, Jennifer Mee arranged to meet a young man named Shannon Griffin whom she contacted through social media; He agreed to meet her and the 22-year-old was under the impression that he was going on a date with Jennifer and to purchase marijuana but her motive was robbery and Jennifer used her two male friends to help her but in the process of being robbed, Shannon was shot four times. Under Florida law, all those who participate in a robbery where someone dies is equally guilty of murder as the person who actually did the killing.  Jennifer from all accounts was not even present at the scene or ever planned to kill him. Cyntoia Brown deserves clemency Written by Robert A. Stewart A campaign to gain Cyntoia Brown clemancy has been going on for some time and the shout of clemancy by various campaigns seems to be falling on deaf ears! There are some circumstances surrounding her situation and the events leading up to when she shot her alleged victim that need some revisiting. Here is what I do know; Cyntoia was 16 (she is now 30) when she was homeless and selling herself. She found herself in the company of a 43-year old man who I understand she was staying with. It appears that she was high on drugs when she shot this man while he was asleep. (it was alleged) As for her selling her services to men, I do not know what the law in Tennessee says but in most countries the legal age for doing that is 18 so if that is the case in the US also then shouldn't someone have had the book thrown at them? Some of their crimes may have been hideous but in many cases they have found themselves in bad situations after being led astray. There is a line between justice and revenge and I believe that line has often been crossed, not only by the prosecution but by victims. Here are four young women who have all been inside for up to 10 years after being convicted for murder as teenagers. I have written to all four but only Erin has responded. Morgan Leppert Morgan was just 15 when in 2008 she along with her 22-year-old boyfriend Toby Lowry beat, stabbed, and suffocated 66-year-old disabled man James Stewart in 2008 and stole his truck. They intended to run away together to California but never got that far but were arrested in Texas after an amber alert was put out. Morgan was taken back to Putman County in Florida to face the music. After much questioning, she was charged with first degree murder. Her boyfriend at the time who was aged 22 testified against Morgan in order to avoid the death penalty which basically sealed Morgan's fate. What we do not know of this case are whether the investigating officer's asked Morgan's boyfriend why he did not take more responsibility for what occurred! It is all very well saying that Morgan did such and such but a so-called adult testifying against a minor in a relationship where he led her astray is rather pitiful in my book. The most common denominator in these tragedies From time to time we see situations in the United States where minors are convicted of serious offenses such as murder and are given long prison sentences, in some cases life without parole. Take a look at these young women who have been in prison since their teens. All are still in their twenties; ERIN CAFFEY In 2007, Erin then 16, plotted to kill her family because her parents kept breaking up her relationships with her boyfriends. She asked her boyfriend, then 19 to kill her parents and along with an associate killed Erin's Mum, and two younger brothers. Erin's dad survived, forgave his daughter and visits her in prison. Erin is eligible for parole in 2038. During the interviewing process the other three participants in this crime all pointed the finger at Erin saying "It was all her idea." My interest in the Caffey tragedy written by Bob Stewart It was late October last year (2017) that I was sitting in a sleepout near Greymouth (New Zealand) channel surfing with the remote checking to see what was on that is worth watching. I came across the Criminal Investigation channel featuring Erin Caffey. The presenter of the programme was Piere's Morgan.   I watched and became quite interested that I left it on that channel. The very next day, I wrote a letter to Erin askibg her if she wanted to be penfriends with me. It was also the start of a letter writing campaign to help Erin because somethings did not make sense to me. I believe that just sending a 16-year-old to prison for her life is a cop out. People do change and turn their lives around. I have written to all four participants of this crime and every other person or organisation that has been connected to it and at the time of writing have only heard from Erin herself.
